What we like in blogs February 5, 2007

Filed under: Blogosphere Work — mfulwiler @ 2:13 pm

As a class, it sounds like we all appreciate blogs that:

  • Use interesting and informative titles
  • Break up huge chunks of text into smaller sections separated with white space
  • Have a focus and a point and teach us something
  • Incorporate direct links and images (and maybe even videos!)
  • Get updated on a regular basis (like every day or a couple times a week at least!)

Your blog assigment for this week:

Find 3 new blogs that are all dedicated to one of your own personal passion (yoga? knitting? playing bass? ballet? ice-fishing? surfing?)

Your post is your entry into this subculture and community.  How do you join in their conversation? What do you have to add to it? So this post is not about summarizing, but about contributing…as a new member of this blogging community.  Remember, this is practice.

Read their blogrolls and keep playing until you find a voice, a presence, ideas that you like.

Link directly to them in your post.

Include one image (use the “link” button on the toolbar.)

Try joining flickr or photobucket–both free online photo services.

Music? Well, I’ll bet it’s possible but I have no idea how to do it. Do you?

Be sure to browse your classmates’ blogs later this week to see what is up and who is doing what.  And post your comment!

I read your blogs and posted comments. Clearly I need to create some some kind of avatar. I also need to learn how to embed a link directly. So much to learn! Here’s a video I’d like to show in class today. http://blogenabyme.wordpress.com/2007/02/04/form-and-function/

Let’s see if this works.

Oh for a Blog Guru! February 4, 2007

Dear class,

Well, I now have an official YouTube account, as well as del.iciou.us account (complete with cute toolbar buttons). I have been sitting here for an hour though and I can’t upload (or download?) this cool video about ashtanga yoga. So, if you’re interested in what it looks like (and what I can only dream of aspiring to) check out the link on my previous post.

I hope you’ve discovered some new things in your blog play. I’m on my way to reading your blogs!
